‘Extremely Hurt by the Misery’ – Roger Federer Explains How Mirka’s Past Prompted Him to Help Children in Ukraine

Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer showed time and again that he has a heart of Gold. His foundation, The Roger Federer Foundation, helped plenty of children in Africa and Switzerland with early education over the years. The recent conflict between Russia and Ukraine has also made a deep impact on the Swiss player. In a recent interview with Caminada Magazine, Federer talked about recent events and whether or not he discussed them with his four children.

Notably, Roger has two sets of identical twins, two girls (Myla and Charlene) and two boys (Leo and Lenny). In that interview, Roger revealed that he and his wife Mirka discuss this matter with their children. Also, Federer hopes that his children will do good in the world when they grow up.
“Naturally. But how much is too much? I can still remember watching TV pictures from Kuwait when I was a boy. I can still see the green rockets in the sky clearly in front of me. At that time we were further away from the war here in Switzerland. Mirka and I are extremely concerned about the state of the world. We are passed out,” Federer said (Google Translate)

When asked about discussing sensitive topics with his children, such as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
“It’s difficult to exemplify carefree joy when you’re down yourself. Mirka lost her homeland as a child when she came here from Slovakia with her family. She is extremely hurt by the misery of the refugees. Our foundation wants to help traumatized children. I hope that the four of us, when they grow up, will want to be involved with the foundation or do good in the world,” he further added, speaking about Mirka’s past.
Earlier, Federer donated $500,000 to help around 6 million Ukrainian children with their food and education. In a statement, he talked about feeling horrible after seeing the images from Ukraine.

However, it is highly unlikely that he will make his return at this year’s Wimbledon. However, he has already announced his return to the Laver Cup this year in September.
