Matteo Berrettini to miss the Monte Carlo and a few more tournamnets

A week ago, the Italian tennis player announced the bad news of going through minor surgery. On his Instagram account, he announced the news to his fans. “My team and I have been speaking to medical experts since my withdrawal from Miami with a right hand injury. Following multiple scans and assessments we decided a minor operation was the best solution to ensure a full and quick recovery.
Earlier today I had the operation and I’m happy to report it went extremely well,” the Italian player posted on Instagram.

Providing an update about his return on the tour, Berrettini announced that he will miss both Monte Carlo and Rome Masters. “Following advice from the medical experts, my team and I have decided that it is crucial I do not put time pressure on my recovery process. We have therefore decided I should withdraw from the Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome tournaments to ensure I give myself the proper amount of time to return at my highest level,” Berrettini wrote.

“Withdrawing from these events, particularly Rome, was an extremely tough decision, however it is the right one to ensure many more years of competing at the highest level for the biggest trophies. Thanks very much for all the support. My recovery process is on track and I look forward to seeing you on-court soon,” he further wrote about his home tournament, Rome Masters.

Can Berrettini make a comeback at the French Open?

Before the French Open at the end of May, missing three big tournaments like this will not help Berrettini at all. Especially, the Rome Masters or the Italian Open (scheduled on 2nd May) which is his home event.

However, he is looking at the big picture, as the Italian is planning to make a long run in his career. Right now, he is on the timeline to make a comeback at the French Open. However, his form will be a concern as he will not have enough matches under his belt on the red soil to go for a championship run at Roland Garros. The French Open starts on the 22nd May.
