This year has been nothing short of a roller-coaster ride for Italian star, Jannik Sinner. He was the standout player during the 2024 season and won 8 titles this year! He started his season winning the AO title and ended it by winning the ATP Finals. However, despite all these heroics, the 23-year-old Italian at times sneaked into the headlines. He tested positive for a banned substance, Clostebol earlier this year and after that, there came the rumors of his breakup with fellow tennis player, Anna Kalinskaya. How does Jannik Sinner look back at the 2024 season?

Well, on December 4th, Jannik Sinner attended the SuperTennis Awards in Milan. There, he was seen paying tribute to his family and friends who stood beside him through thick and thin. Sinner said, “We had some difficult moments this year, on the court I did incredible things but off the court, many things happened. I had honest people around me, they were difficult moments and even more today I have to thank my team, my family, and the public who have always supported me.”

He has time and again highlighted how his mom, Siglinde, and dad, Johann, gave him the freedom to pursue his tennis dream. Johann, a chef, and Siglinde, a former waitress, gave birth to their son Jannik on August 16, 2001. They did everything possible to support their kid to pursue his dream. In 2023, during an interview, Jannik Sinner revealed how his father worked as his professional chef on Tour to spend time together. For Sinner, seeing his parents for long and hard hours had a great impact on him. He even credits his parents for his incredible work ethic!

After winning the AO earlier this year, Jannik Sinner said, “I wish that everyone could have my parents because they always let me choose whatever I wanted to. Even when I was younger, I made also some other sports and then they never put pressure on me and I wish that this freedom is possible for as many young kids as possible.” He hailed them as “perfect parents” and went on to reveal how grateful he’s to them for allowing him to leave home at the age of just 14 to continue his full-training at the prestigious Piatti Tennis Academy.

Even after winning the Nitto ATP Finals, Sinner made an emotional remark about his and his parents’ sacrifices as a family, as they made rare appearances in Turin. His mother was even spotted crying as he accepted his first year-end world number one trophy. Later on in an interview, Jannik Sinner said, “I just heard that my mom was crying, which is something very cute! Only they know from my early stages, when I was around 13, how many sacrifices we made as a family also. We would have never thought that we’d have this [year-end World No. 1 trophy] at home at some point.” Why do Jannik Sinner’s parents don’t come to see him play as much, though?
