The year 2022 was going pretty well for the American rising star, Taylor Fritz. He has played some top-seeded players and defeated them to clinch two ATP titles this year. However, after his arduous run against Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon, the American could not fare well at the Citi Open.

The player suffered issues like dizziness and unfortunately had to retire from the match. After recovering from such issues, he conveyed a message to his fans via social media, updating them about his condition.
Taylor Fritz updates his fans after his walkover at the Citi Open
The world no.13 was playing against Dan Evans of Britain in the round of 16 at the Citi Open and retired from the match, mid-way through the third set. Later, Taylor Fritz conveyed that he was not feeling well through Twitter. He tweeted, “First off, health-wise I’m okay. I feel embarrassed not being able to finish a match.” He clarified that he has never left a match unfinished, but last year in Toronto he had almost passed out from the pushing his body too much.

Moreover, he also commented on the weather conditions at the venue. He stated, “Typically, I pride myself on my fitness and ability to compete in very hot/ humid, brutal conditions like today.” The player mentioned that he has kept his grind going after Wimbledon and practiced a lot in the gym. Nonetheless, the conditions on the court overwhelmed him.

Despite withdrawing from the match, Fritz is satisfied with his performance on the court. He continued, “I’m really happy with my actual level of tennis and I’m really happy that my foot is feeling good.”

He was optimistic about the rest of the year and apologized for the walkover.
“Now that my foot feels better I can finally put in the on court work. Sorry if I worried anyone.”
Can Fritz make his mark at the US Open?
Although Taylor Fritz succumbed to the heat in Washington, it hasn’t dampened the zealous spirit he has kept alive all year long. His biggest victory to date came when he defeated Rafael Nadal in the finals of the Indian Wells.

Other than that, the American star also won the Eastbourne International by defeating Maxime Cressy. The player, however, suffered a defeat against Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon Championships in a five-set match. Besides that, he also suffered a foot injury.

Considering his consistent performances in this season, no one would be surprised if the American made it to the latter stages of the US Open.
