Novak Djokovic started traveling the world at a very young age for tournaments. Regardless of being a man of his goals, he was not immune from the scolding of his mother. He received a handful of it in his childhood and also experienced it in his adulthood as well. He recently recollected an instance that took place at the Australian Open.

While Djokovic’s mother has scolded him many times over the years, she also rushes to his defense in the true fashion of a mother. He has been on the receiving end of the anger she inflicts on others as well.

Djokovic played in the Australian Open for the first time in 2005. He won his first match at the tournament in 2007, and since then, he has won the tournament ten times. The 24-time grand slam champion has made many great memories in the tournament, along with the victories. He recalled a tale when he returned to the tournament this year, and the organizers shared a video of the moment.   

“I remember I had a haircut and the hair dresser was like, ‘Do you wanna do something special?’ and I said, ‘What do you mean?’. He was like, ‘Its your first time in Rod Laver, you might as well make an appearance. You know, make an entrance that people will remember’. Then she’s like, ‘Maybe we’ll colour your hair’. I instantly thought of my mother, you know, the amount of criticism I would get from her, which I did later on.”

He threw caution in the air and went ahead with it, making it a special moment of his journey in the Australian Open. His mother’s scolding will ensure he doesn’t take a similar step without thinking twice. While she cracked down on him, she also cracked down on others who criticized her son.

Dijana Djokovic, like many others, feels that her kid has been unappreciated. She has leveled severe accusations against the international and tennis media, which she claims has always been biased against Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Speaking to Sportal, she said that he bothers the two because he destroyed their plans to be the best in the world.

She then said, “They (world media) didn’t care between the two of them, but only if it wasn’t Novak. They just can’t understand that he is the way he is. They all think he’s faking it, and that’s what he is.” A scolding mother for him and a woman of fury for others, Dijana Djokovic is there for all the steps of Djokovic’s journey.
