Rafael Nadal, the Spanish tennis star lost the last match of his 2022 campaign. In the mixed team tournament, the Spaniard was shockingly defeated by Cameron Norrie of the United Kingdom, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. During the post-match press conference, the 22-time Grand Slam champion encountered a question that has become a staple in his meeting with the media: his retirement. Although the Spanish tennis legend joked about it, his fans certainly didn’t take it lightly.
Fans shared on Twitter that they want to see the star fired up when encountering such questions. Norrie had failed to win a set in his previous four encounters with Nadal. Rafa’s getting tired & had enough of this retirement talk already. They really should leave him alone and just let him play. Rafa just won 2 important grand slams of his career AO & RG & 2 ATPs in 2022. The year is not over yet.. did they forget that already?? @RafaelNadal 🐐👑🎾 https://t.co/BSiBNo8BIp

For how long has Rafa been telling this? It's soooo tiring at this point… 😒😫
If I were one of those journos, I'd be really embarrassed for having to be told those words again and again. Pity, they don't seem to care about being good professionals… at all! 😡 https://t.co/qgQ4eIdtxR

The Spaniard claims that he won’t consider retiring until it gets challenging for him to play on the court.
Fans wish to see an ‘angry’ Nadal dominate on the court to a successful win. In 2012 and 2021, Nadal suffered his two biggest injuries of his career, which nearly sidelined him for a full year. He additionally missed a number of Grand Slam matches due to injuries. During the 2022 Wimbledon semifinals, he suffered an abdominal tear. As a result, he missed over a month of playing tennis.
He’s so done with the r-word but still says it in the nicest, friendliest, kindest way 😅❤️ https://t.co/EXgBgI1NBa

Given that his 2022 season was cut short by injuries and with back-to-back Grand Slam titles in Melbourne and at Roland Garros, it is unclear how much Nadal will still be able to achieve in 2023.
