Footballer Andres Iniesta Congratulates Rafael Nadal After Stunning Win to Claim 2022 French Open Title

Rafael Nadal is one of the best athletes to be produced by the country of Spain. The 22-time Grand Slam winner scripted history after winning an astounding 14th Roland Garros title on Sunday. With the victory, Nadal surely will go down as one of the greatest ever to grace the court.

The Spanish media wasted no time to describe his historic achievement in Paris. Spain is known to produce some of the best athletes across sport, from Fernando Alonso to Pau Gasol.

Iniesta congratulates Nadal on social media

FC Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta took to Instagram to congratulate his fellow countryman on the outstanding achievement. His caption translated to, “Congratulations @rafaelnadal. Legend.”

The 38-year-old plays in Japan with Vissel Kobe, currently last in the new season after 16 games. However, in an interview in 2018, Iniesta described Nadal as a ‘reference point for the sports world.’ He said, “All what Rafa does is amazing and he continues to be a great example. He is a reference point in all the ways not only for tennis but for the sports world.”

“For us as Spaniards, he is a prideness and we are lucky to have him,” he added. Nadal has also won the Davis Cup with Spain, while winning a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The mercurial Spaniard missed half of the 2021 season after undergoing foot surgery. He made his return to the Australian Open this season, sensationally winning a remarkable 21st Grand Slam. Since then, he has suffered a rib fracture, keeping him out for almost two months.

His return on clay came in Madrid, where he could not recreate the form from Down Under. However, he unbelievably came through once again in Paris putting him on an amazing 22 Major titles. Nadal will take his time before deciding on his participation at Wimbledon later this month.

This is the first time the Spaniard has won the first two Grand Slams in a calendar year since 2010. He will aim to continue his scintillating form until the end of this stellar season.
