Princess Diana allegedly had a close relationship with a former Serbian tennis player while she was still married to Prince Charles. Former Serbian tennis star once revealed that he shared a close relationship with the Princess.

The tennis player spoke about his bond with the late royal in an interview he gave to a Serbian newspaper few years ago. He stated that their friendship developed while they were both involved in separate relationships.

Slobodan Živojinović’s close relationship with the Princess of Wales

Živojinović, 59, claimed that their friendship started in the late 1980s when Princess Diana watched him play at Wimbledon after which, they grew close.

He told a Serbian newspaper about their relationship several years ago. Slobodan revealed that the two were “seeing each other.Živojinović also stated meeting Diana before his match at the SW19 courts in 1987.

 “In our first conversation she asked me if I am the tennis player with the fastest serve, and I said: ‘Yes‘. Then she asked if my serve was still good. That’s when we started hanging out and seeing each other. We were close,” revealed the Serbian.

He also mentioned how their relationship developed over the years. Živojinović had only good words to say about the late Diana.

She was a wonderful woman. With her I could talk about everything and even simple things became fascinating.”

Princess Diana was renowned for her admiration of tennis

Diana, Princess of Wales, was another royal who was renowned for her adoration of tennis. There are numerous images of the princess cheering enthusiastically from the Royal Box while watching various games over the years. Given her passion for sports, it is not surprising that Diana attended Wimbledon frequently in the 1980s and 1990s.

Although she was frequently spotted in the box, it has been claimed that the princess’ Wimbledon connections extended beyond the exclusive enclosure.

Coming to Slobodan Živojinović, he competed for his country in the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, where he lost to Frenchman in the second round. He is the only tennis player from Serbia to hold the top doubles ranking along with Nenad Zimonjić.

Živojinović retired in 1992 and later became the president of Serbia’s Tennis Federation from 2006 to 2011.
