There is no shortage of drama at the moment for tennis fans. Yesterday saw one of the best Grand Slam finals in recent years as World Number One, Carlos Alcaraz defeated 23-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic to win his maiden Wimbledon title. It was a match that had all, from long rallies to exquisite shot-making, tennis fans had a gala time. Recently, a bizarre moment occurred in another tournament featuring Dominic Thiem.
The former US Open champion is in full swing after having an injury-laden 2022 season. However, he hasn’t been able to replicate his past form. Thiem has suffered disappointing and early exits from tournaments this season. His best result so far this year has been a semifinal appearance on the Challenger Tour. With the former World Number Three battling it out to regain his form, an unusual incident surprised him. Let’s find out what was it about.

Water comes out of nowhere during Dominic Thiem’s match
The Austrian is currently in Switzerland where he’s participating in the ATP 250 EFG Swiss Open Gstaad. The 29-year-old is unseeded and was up against Alexandre Muller of France in the opening round. The shocking incident took place as Thiem was ready to serve in the tenth game of the second set.
During the first-round match between Muller and Thiem in Gstaad, on 5-4 30-30 in the second set, water started to come out of the clay (!?).

Water started to come out of the clay, halting the match for a brief period of time. The Austrian was not amused at this, as the match paused during a crucial moment in the second set.

Nonetheless, the break had no effect on Thiem’s rhythm as he went on to hold his serve to level the second set 5-5. Further, the set went to the tiebreaker as the Austrian won points at crucial junctures to seal the match in his favor. Earlier, Thiem comfortably won the first set 6-1.
Who will Dominic Thiem face next?
The former US Open is aiming to clinch his first title of this season in Gstaad. He is through to the round-of-16 and faces the challenge of qualifier Hamad Medjedovic of Serbia. The latter earlier defeated China’s Zhizhen Zhang in a tough three-set encounter.
