Former Wimbledon Champion Blames Roger Federer’s Fans for His Losses Against Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic has been one of the most successful players on the tour. In a career spanning almost 2 decades, Djokovic has been a force to be reckoned with throughout the highly competitive professional circuit. Though the player is often appreciated for his highly balanced game, a former grand slam winner thinks otherwise. 

1996 Wimbledon champion, Deutch Richard Krajicek recently pointed out Djokovic gets inspired and energized by fans cheering for his rivals. In the interview, he did a deep dive on how Roger Federer’s fans have helped Djokovic in his career.

How Roger’s fans helped Djokovic

Richard Krajicek, the tournament director of ATP 500 ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament, Rotterdam credited Federer’s fans for Djokovic’s successful career. He said, “One of the reasons why Djokovic has been so successful is thanks to the Federer fans.”

He further explained his statement, saying, “The Federer fans when he played against Novak were so much pushing for Roger and thought they were helping him, but they were actually helping Novak to win those matches.”

In the interview, he also spoke about how Djokovic’s deportation and how it may affect the World No. 1’s return at the ATP 500 Dubai Open.

Krajicek also gave his views on the deportation saga calling it a case of ‘misunderstanding or miscommunication.’

Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have been one of the biggest rivals on-court. The two have faced each other 50 times since their first meeting at the 2006 ATP Masters 1000 Monte Carlo. In the head-to-head race, Djokovic leads the way 27-23.

The two also hold the record for most weeks at World No. 1. Djokovic leads the race with 359 weeks, with Federer taking the second spot at 310 weeks.

Being two of the top players, one record is not enough for the two. They are also in the race of Most Grand Slam titles with 20 titles each. They are succeeded by Rafael Nadal who stands on the top spot with 21 titles.
