Frances Tiafoe is gearing up to hit the ground running for the hard-court American summer. In addition to his athletic prowess, he also knows how to handle detractors and maintain his positive attitude. A fan tried to make fun of his exuberance by saying, “It’s July 21st brother, summer is nearly over,” in response to his exuberant post. But Tiafoe’s devoted followers—including his girlfriend—quickly rallied behind him, tipping the scales in his favor.

Following that, another fan chimed in, “US Summer hard court season is just starting, brother.” Meanwhile, another fan added, “I think he means the US Open lol.” Laughing at the critic’s misguided attempt to make fun of the American athlete, Tiafoe’s girlfriend joined in the fun and displayed strong support and camaraderie from his inner circle by dropping a laughing emoji.

The American has subsequently spent more than eight years with his girlfriend, Ayan Broomfield. The two have maintained their connection despite the enormous hurdles of distance and busy schedules since they initially met as young tennis professionals.

In addition to silencing the doubter, their prompt actions demonstrated the tennis player’s robust support system as he prepared for the summer. While critics and naysayers are a common occurence on social media, Tiafoe has also talked about receiving death threats on social media in the past.

Frances Tiafoe once received death threats

The 26-year-old tennis player disclosed last year that, after losing matches on the professional circuit, he started to receive threats on his life on social media. “Everybody gets them after a loss,” the 26-year-old player Tiafoe remarked ahead of his scheduled play in the second round of the French Open.

He said, “It’s just how society is today. I know how that affects people’s mental health. That’s very real.” Tiafoe’s frank comments highlight the unsettling truth many sportsmen face in the midst of their career struggles. On the other hand, Tiafoe’s partner has been a constant source of support in the face of this tough reality. This time, she was ready to support him and offer consolation as he faced the vitriol he was receiving online.
