The 2024 French Open has seen it all. In just a few days, the tournament is already catching a lot of attention with some crazy moments taking place on and off the court. While Rafael Nadal’s potentially last match was an emotional encounter, Andrey Rublev’s show of anger at losing to Italian youngster Matteo Arnaldi conveyed different emotions. However, one thing that was common in these incidents was the attention from the fans. Another such incident occurred between Frances Tiafoe and Denis Shapovalov.

The moment took place in the second game of the second set, which was locked at 30-30. While the Canadian star served big, Tiafoe managed to pick up a return which resulted in Shapovalov returning down the line. Tiafoe still managed to chase the ball and kept the point alive with a short return. Subsequently, Shapovalov approached the net and dropped a short volley following which Tiafoe chased it and returned the ball with all his power.

Unfortunately, Tiafoe’s return was directed toward Shapovalov, who took the hit on his head. Although Tiafoe immediately apologized for the shot, Shapovalov was visibly shaken and not happy with Tiafoe’s return. Nonetheless, Shapovalov managed to win the game and exchanged a few words with Big Foe.

The hit seemed to have fired up Shapovalov, who produced his finest performance of the year so far and went on to win the match after losing the first set. Meanwhile, it was curtains for Tiafoe at the French Open, as he lost both, in the singles as well as doubles. Despite the early exit, his girlfriend has been a pillar of support for him.

Frances Tiafoe’s girlfriend comes to his rescue

The American star has struggled for form this year and has put on inconsistent performances lately. However, expectations from him have risen and fans have always followed his matches closely. As a result, when Tiafoe’s girlfriend, Ayan Broomfield commented after his first-round victory at the ongoing French Open, it invited a strong reaction from one fan.

Congratulating Tiafoe on entering the second round, Broomfield took to social media and said, “Nothing good comes easy….. round 1 ✅. See y’all again tomorrow ✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿. #godspeed #humble&hungry #darkhorse.” Reacting to this, one fan retaliated by commenting, Man you not him right now bro you need to get some wins.”

Subsequently, Tiafoe’s girlfriend gave a fitting reply to the fan criticizing her boyfriend’s performances, saying, “He’s been him. always him. take your negativity elsewhere.” Nonetheless, it was not the end that Tiafoe would have liked as his French Open campaign came to a premature end.
