Jannik Sinner never fails to make headlines, no matter where he goes. Since rising quickly to the top of the rankings last year, amid a doping controversy in March, the Italian has impressed and intrigued fans worldwide. One headline that blew up was about his ex-girlfriend Anna Kalinskaya. The two shared a kiss after his US Open victory, but the relationship fizzled out by season’s end. Now, the big question: is the Italian dating anyone ahead of Roland Garros?

The World No.1 is back in action after a tough loss on home soil earlier this month against rival Carlos Alcaraz. He seems ready for the second Grand Slam of the season at Roland Garros, so will he have a special someone there to cheer him on? Before the tournament, journalists asked him the intriguing off-court question during the press conference: “I saw some pictures of you walking around in Copenhagen with a girl this week. Just wondering what you were doing in Copenhagen and who the girl was?”

Sinner didn’t mince words. He said, via The Tennis Letter on X, “No, there was no girl. I had just some business with a couple of photo shootings there. And that’s it. Nothing else.” Short, crisp, and to the point. That’s the Italian’s way. But this isn’t the first time he’s been asked about his relationship status.

Before his comeback at the Italian Open last month, Jannik Sinner was spotted driving around Monte Carlo with model Lara Leito. The Russian also attended one of his practice matches in the Principality and posted about attending the Monte Carlo Masters, which further sparked dating rumors. Ahead of his return after a three-month ban for his doping controversy, Sinner was asked about his romantic life.

He insisted he was “not in a relationship,” denying any connection with Leito. “I was surprised to see some of the photos of me in the press (with a girl). In the end, it made me realize that I’m someone important on and off the court. Simply put, I’m not in a relationship,” the world No. 1 said.

This is official confirmation that his relationship with Kalinskaya is over. The pair dated early in the 2024 season, with rumors swirling before the French Open. It was nearly confirmed when Kalinskaya attended one of Sinner’s matches at Roland Garros. Sinner had revealed in Paris: “I don’t like to talk about my private life much, but yes, Anna and I are dating.” They were later seen enjoying time in Sardinia, and pictures quickly spread on social media.

However, their relationship took a sharp turn after Sinner spoke openly about how it affected his season last year. Since then, they slowly drifted apart. When they unfollowed each other on social media, it sparked breakup rumors shortly after.

Jannik Sinner on how his relationship impacts his game

Last November in Turin, during the ATP Finals, Jannik opened up about the impact Anna Kalinskaya had on his season. Instead of romantic praise, he gave a refreshingly honest answer. Sinner said, “I don’t think anything has changed. Having a girlfriend is something that either makes you feel good or makes you feel bad. I want it to be something that feels very natural, which comes into my life normally. I can’t afford to change as a player or as a person. That hasn’t happened, that’s why it works.” Talk about keeping it real!

After those remarks, things seemed a bit chilly between the two. Kalinskaya didn’t congratulate him on his Turin victory and instead enjoyed a holiday in Miami—without mentioning him. They never officially announced their split, but fans spotted them sharing an embrace at Rod Laver Arena during the Australian Open. Now, with Jannik confirming he’s not in a relationship, that chapter is finally closed.

Looking ahead, Sinner faces a tough draw at the French Open starting May 25. He’ll kick off against Arthur Rinderknech in the opening match. Last year, he made it to the semis but fell to Carlos Alcaraz in a hard-fought battle. This year, he’s showing improvements on clay, highlighted by his finals appearance in Rome.
