No more ‘cheers’ at the Roland Garros! The authorities started to work closely ever since the French crowd experienced a shameful act during the opening round match between David Goffin and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. While the players entered the arena in search of glory, Goffin had an unexpected experience worth despising.

David Goffin’s showdown against the local rival took five long sets to decide the victor. While the French crowd was one-sidedly supporting the locals, the Belgian found himself involved in a terrible environment. Taking things into consideration and introducing new rules to keep things stable, the authorities recently announced that there will be no booze allowed in the stands.

A journalist by the name of Carole Bouchard came forward to drop this update on X. “Also no more alcohol in the stands on courts will be allowed,” he wrote, along with laying the other rules related to the timings and schedule.

The crowd’s behavior against Goffin seemed to have triggered his emotions. Soon after he emerged victorious in five sets, the tennis star came forward to lay his concerns. “When you’re insulted for 3.5 hours, you have to annoy the public a little. Clearly, it goes too far. It’s total disrespect,” he said, narrating the terrible experience that he had to go through in Paris.

Along with that, he also revealed a shameful act performed by a spectator, saying, “Some people are there more to make a mess than to make a mess of things. atmosphere today, someone spat their gum at me.”  The shocking environment created at the Roland Garros was undoubtedly unacceptable. However, the authorities dropped positive signs of being active by taking several measures to stop incidents like these from happening.

As it all happened, there’s a high chance that the fans might have had a flashback of a similar incident with Taylor Fritz last year.

When Taylor Fritz became a victim of the heckling French crowd

This isn’t the first time when a non-Frenchman was treated with disrespect at the Roland Garros. Back in 2023, Taylor Fritz went through a similar incident in the second-round match against Arthur Rinderknech. The crowd completely sided with their countryman and therefore the American ATP star had to stand in an atmosphere of immense heckling.

Fritz managed to hold down himself and therefore remained focused on the game. While he served his opponent with a defeat, he walked out of the court with a cold celebration by placing a finger on his lips. This was Fritz’s way of shutting down the hecklers, as he served the Frenchman with a remarkable defeat.

The French Open is not only known for its highly competitive levels and tough-to-beat surface. As the authorities work closely to keep things on track, fans as well as the players can be assured of a backing by their side.
