The French Open 2022 is proceeding to its business end. There have been some eye-catching tennis action over the last two weeks. Particularly, yesterday was eventful in Paris. Earlier, World Number 3, Alexander Zverev was forced to retire in his match against Rafael Nadal after suffering a major ankle injury.
Further, a bizarre incident occurred in the second semifinal of the day between Casper Ruud and Marin Cilic.

Protester ties herself to the net at French Open 2022
When Ruud was leading 4-1 in the third set, an environmental activist entered the court and tied herself to the net, causing a delay in the match. The message on her T-shirt read, “We have 1028 days left.” This message was in reference to a UN report on climate change.

Subsequently, talking about the incident during the post-match press conference, Ruud said, “When it comes to this protest, it was a little bit, what should I say, nasty is maybe a good word, because I didn’t really know how to react to it. It was a little bit tricky and difficult situation. Never happened to me before. So we were taken outside for six, seven minutes and I got to regroup a little bit and got my flow going again.”

It is not the first time that a spectator has barged into the court at Roland Garros. During the 2009 men’s singles final, a spectator entered the court and tried to put his hand on Roger Federer’s head. Further, during the 2013 final, a protester ran around the court with a flare in hand.

Casper Ruud enters Roland Garros final
The Norwegian entered his maiden Grand Slam final at the clay-court major tournament. He prevailed over Marin Cilic in four sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-2. It was a dominating performance by Ruud over a more experienced opponent.
