The age for greatness in tennis is going down day by day. Young stars are picking up the sport and causing massive upsets on the tour. From Carlos Alcaraz to Coco Gauff, there are many examples that prove this fact. Among them is the name of an upcoming star, Joao Fonseca. The Brazilian wonderkid is just 17, but he has already caught the attention of the tennis world. He is the World Number 1 in the ITF Junior ranking and won the US Open Junior Championship earlier this year. Recently, he opened up about cross-generational talents, Roger Federer and Carlos Alcaraz.
Fonseca has won two titles this year on the junior circuit and is one of the big names for the future. Here’s what he said about Federer and Alcaraz.

Brazilian sensation idolizes Roger Federer and Carlos Alcaraz
Recently, the 17-year-old Fonseca was involved in an interview with Marca. During that interview, he talked about various subjects – from his early days in tennis to his future prospects. Additionally, he also talked about his idols. Having both a young and an experienced player on his list of players he looks up to, Fonesca might have a bright future ahead.

On being asked about his idols while growing up, Fonseca replied, “My idol was always Roger… Last year I went to the Ferrero Academy in Villena to prepare for Roland Garros. I injured my left wrist & I couldn’t train together with Carlos Alcaraz, although I knew both him & Ferrero. In Rio we practiced.”
Further, he went on to add, “He is an idol at 20 years old. He is almost my age, & he is an inspiration for all the young people of our generation. He has all the weapons, he is always focused…”
Fonseca’s biggest moment of his career came at the US Open junior championships where he won the title. Subsequently, he received a special mention from Roger Federer’s multi-billion dollar venture.

Joao Fonseca’s big victory hogs the limelight
Roger Federer’s brand, ‘On’, celebrated the US Open junior champion along with the brilliant performance of American sensation, Ben Shelton. The official Instagram handle of ‘On’ shared a picture of Fonseca at the tournament.
Congratulating him for his efforts, the caption read, “Junior Grand Slam champion. @joaoffonseca. Wow. Just wow. #DreamOn.” It was a special moment for the 17-year-old, getting mentioned by his idol’s multi-billion dollar venture. Similarly, Shelton, who reached the US Open semifinals, also received huge praise.
