Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic once credited his success to something completely other than hard work. Or even determination and the winner’s mindset. This is from back in 2015 when Djokovic won his third Wimbledon title. Co-incidentally it was also the day of the Serb’s first wedding anniversary.

In the post-match interview, Novak credited his success to getting married. He also acknowledged that becoming a father has made his life so much better. He even advised other players to get married and have kids. He wants them to enjoy this phase in life. The tennis player talked about the various ways in which his family and especially his wife have been there for him.

When asked about what he credits his success to, Novak said,  “My anniversary is actually today,” fondly smiling. He then continued, “Becoming parents in October was another great dimension of love and energy for us”. The Serb confessed that welcoming his firstborn Stefan in October 2014, bridged a stronger relationship for him and his wife.

“Got us even closer together,” he said. The player then went on to recall his wife’s constant support of his career. “Whether I’m winning or losing, she’s always there. The family’s always there,” he added.

Novak is also proud to admit that he is not a full-time tennis player. “When I go back home, I’m not a tennis player anymore. I’m a father and a husband.”  

He stressed the balance that parenthood and marriage bring in his life. He feels that his game has gotten better after he took on these responsibilities. “That’s a kind of balance that I think allows me to play this well. Ever since I got married and became a father, I haven’t lost many matches, I won many tournaments,” Djokovic acknowledged.

With a laugh, he said, “I suggest that to every player, ‘Get married, have kids, let’s enjoy this”.

Novak also won Wimbledon in 2014. In a strange coincidence, he was facing the same opponent again- Federer. Federer was highly determined to win and seal a record to his name. This would have been his eighth Wimbledon. However, he still had to wait two more years for it since Novak took over the game in the second set.

In a rematch of the 2014 Wimbledon men’s finals, the scoreboard read 7–6, 6–7, 6–4, 6–3 in Djokovic’s honor. This win was Novak’s third Wimbledon title and his ninth Grand Slam overall.
