Ben Shelton has shocked the entire tennis realm with his astounding performances in this season’s US Open. The young American tennis sensation has now secured a place in the semifinal round of his home Grand Slam event after outshining his compatriot, Frances Tiafoe. In the process, the 20-year-old has now become the youngest American semifinalist at the hard court major event, in almost three decades.
After pulling off a historic feat on his home soil, the biggest challenge in the sport awaits Shelton as he has been set up for a blockbuster clash against the ATP legend, Novak Djokovic. While making a desperate wish, the former World No. 35 player recently got real on his chances against his 36-year-old opponent.

Ben Shelton on his upcoming US Open matchup against Novak Djokovic
With a spectacular exhibition of his on-court prowess, the young American has already defeated some big names, including Tommy Paul and Dominic Thiem in the initial rounds. Even in his high-profile quarterfinal match against the world No. 10, Frances Tiafoe, the 20-year-old, emerged victorious in a four-set thriller in New York, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7), 6-2.
Shelton, however, has now the biggest hurdle to cross as he will have to lock horns with the 23-time singles Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic. Considering the same, the American tennis youngster was asked, “Do you know who you have next?” in his on-court interview.
Shelton candidly answered while making a wish, “Yeah. He’s won maybe 23 of these… something like that. It’s been tough for the last two matches playing Americans, but hopefully, you guys bring it for me two nights from now. “

Shelton is on the verge of pulling off another feat at the US Open
The American tennis community only gets to attribute Grand Slam glory to their tennis veterans in the men’s circuit. The former tennis star, Andy Roddick, still remains the last American to enjoy a major triumph in the men’s circuit. In his home Grand Slam event in 2003, the now 41-year-old clinched his lone major title after defeating Juan Carlos Ferrero.
Since then, none of his compatriots have managed to pull off a Grand Slam glory on the ATP Tour, leading to a two-decade-long American drought. However, Shelton is now on the verge of ending that ‘drought’ after securing a place in the semifinal round at the US Open.
