Germany and Brazil played each on the outdoor clay courts of Brazil. The first singles match featured Alexander Zverev taking on Thiago Seyboth Wild. Even though the Brazilian played some heavy shots, he failed to withstand the roaring game of Zverev; he went down 6-4,6-2 in just 1 hour and 34 mins. Zverev’s win gave Germany a 1-0 lead.
In the second singles, Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff took on Brazilian Thiago Monteiro. Even though Struff gave a decent fight to Thiago, it was Brazil who took the match, leveling the tie to 1-1. Both teams with one win each, it was now time for the doubles. In the doubles, the German pair of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz stunned the Brazilian pair of Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves and Bruno Soares in three sets, giving Germany a 2-1 lead.
