Now tennis legend Mats Wilander dropped an amazing expectation from this Serbian tennis legend for the coming year. While Djokovic had a great 2023 season, Wilander’s expectation surely drops more responsibilities on the world’s current number-one tennis player for 2024.

Djokovic truly showed that he is almost undefeatable at the age of thirty-six when his opponents are in their early twenties. This aspect has been previously spoken about by Mats Wilander. Now this tennis stalwart’s prediction, fans hope for something truly big for Djokovic.

In a recent podcast, Wilander spoke about Djokovic’s amazing skill, which might bring him a calendar Grand Slam in 2024. This means Wilander hopes this Serbian tennis legend will win all four Grand Slams in 2024. He believes that Djokovic has the potential to win the Olympic gold Medal in the coming year.

Wilander commented-“So I have a prediction to make. I think that next year, there is something like hasn’t done and you know, it’s the calendar Grand Slam next year, we got the Olympics, as well as the golden slam. We got the Davis Cup again. So I don’t know why there’s any reason to think he’s not going to win four out of those six next year.”

Wilander brought the reference to Djokovic’s loss against Jannik Sinner. However, he seemed unbothered and completely called it Djokovic’s greatness. He said-“I really don’t because he should have beaten Sinner. You know, this loss to me makes him even greater. Just like you said, Johnny, he went to Davis Cup. I mean, what’s the upside for him? There’s not much upside there as opposed to when he’s won it before. He hasn’t played it that many times that he owes us one.”

Mats Wilander truly supported Novak Djokovic as felt Djokovic’s loss in the Davis Cup meant more to him than it was for his country, Serbia. While acknowledging the event’s priority on team games, Wilander believed the loss of Djokovic’s country hurt him more.

In Wilander’s words-” I mean, there’s no real upside for no like accept a loss if he doesn’t win, which is exactly what happened. So I think this last part is a lot. It hurts less because it’s a team, but it hurts more because it’s for his country.” 

Disappointed Djokovic called Serbia’s loss in the Davis Cup his fault

Djokovic’s luck turned out pretty disappointing as he lost against Italy in the semi-finals of the Davis Cup tournament this year. Despite having tripe match points, the day wasn’t truly for Djokovic. He lost against Sinner again by 6-2, 2-6 and 7-5. After losing he felt disappointed but responsibly took the blame on his shoulders. Djokovic said “I take responsibility for the defeat, Three wasted match points. It’s my fault.”
