The role of an acting umpire, or chair umpire, in tennis is crucial to ensure that the game is played fairly and in accordance with the established rules and regulations. Mohamed Lahyani is one of the world’s most well-known chair umpires.

Lahyani’s commitment to fairness and accuracy in his officiating has earned him respect and admiration from both players and fans alike. However, his career has not been without controversy. He has previously been accused by Novak Djokovic of not doing his job right. So when recently Lahyani got ‘injured’ in one of the matches, Novak’s fans made their feelings clear.

Recently, the Twitter page of Tennis TV posted a video of Mohamed Lahyani taking a timeout. In the video, it can be seen that he probably sprained his leg as he was coming down from his chair. As soon as the video went viral, Novak’s fans did not spare a second in trolling him.

One of the fans wrote a funny comment. He said, “Novak’s gonna yell at him again”. This comment was in reference to the previous interaction Lahyani and Novak had where they engaged in a heated conversation.

Another Twitter user and seemingly avid Djokovic fan added, “He is the worst”.

A Twitter user also commented using Novak’s name on the tweet. He added, “Djokovic is right. He is too much of a princess.” The ‘injury’ seemed to be caused while he was getting down from his chair and so the user probably assumed that it was not a serious injury and definitely did not require a timeout.

One of the last comments that came into the conversation was about Mohamed loving to attract attention. The user wrote, “Lahyani loving being the center of attention again I see”.

Novak’s fans were quick to judge Mohamed Lahyani for taking a timeout because it relates to another incident that happened between him and Djokovic at the Italian Open.

In May, Novak got into a heated argument with Lahyani in Rome

During the match between Novak Djokovic and Holger Rune at the Italian Open, Mohamed Lahyani played the role of the chair umpire. And he was taking too long to announce the scores in Italian and then translating it into English. This caused Novak to get furious at him. He lashed out at Lahyani. Furthermore, the Serbian legend asked him if he was acting.

In fact, Rune was also angry at Lahyani for being slow in announcing scores. The young Norwegian asked Lahyani if he even gets punished when he makes a mistake on the court. Rune’s question pointed out the differences in penalties for players and officials during matches. Last but not least, Rune asked Lahyani to respect the players.
