Andre Agassi has one of the top places in the tennis realm. The eight-time grand slam champion is now leading a happy and peaceful life with his wife and tennis star, Steffi Graf. However, this was not the case with his first marriage to actress Brooke Shields.

This was one hurdle they both could not get through. Shields now considers her first marriage as something she had to do.

The American actress and the tennis legend had a very tumultuous marriage. They got married in 1997, but it was not a happy marriage. Consequently, they got divorced after two years in 1999. According to her, the failed marriage helped her to become the person she is today. In an old interview, the American actress talked about the things she learned from her marriage with ‘The Punisher’.

She said, “No matter how you try to therapy yourself out of it, there’s clearly something on a cellular level that needs to work through.” She further added, “I think I got out pretty unscathed,” indicating that they divorced each other before things got worse.

However, she did not undermine the lessons she learned from that which affected her life decisions. She said, “Yet I also think I couldn’t have even been with my (now) husband had I not been in that relationship with Andre.

Agassi released his book, ‘Open’ in 2009. Around the same time, Shields accused Agassi of blaming her for his failure. There is no doubt behind the fact that the couple did not have a good marriage. The renowned actress also revealed Agassi’s tantrums during their marriage, which once led to him smashing his Grand Slam trophies to pieces.

In his autobiography, Agassi also talked about the pressure his father had put on him to excel in tennis. This might have made him one of the best tennis players in the world, but that led him to a state that he disliked tennis.

Thankfully, Agassi and Shields both ended up finding partners with whom they could thrive. Eventually, after his divorce, Agassi married the 22-time Grand Slam champion Steffi Graf.
