Pickleball is a sport that has grown faster than anyone could have imagined in the last few years. We are seeing several tennis players opting to play the  uprising game instead of tennis, such as Jack Sock. An All-American NCAA Champion also announced that they will also be making a career switch from tennis to pickleball and recently made some wild comparisons between the two racket sports.

Reading their statement ground the gears of Nick Kyrgios, who brought Roger Federer into the argument to say that their claim was bogus and that the paddle sport does not match up to tennis by any standards.

Pickleball has made me a much better athlete than Tennis ever did. Faster reaction time and speed are needed since the ball is only coming from 10 feet away. Point for point, pickleball requires more skill than tennis,” were the words of tennis player turned pickler Christian Alshon, who announced his transition in 2023.

His statement did not settle well with most of those who commented, with Kyrgios being one of them. “Yeah. Let’s hide under the bed after this statement hahahaha bro get me the best pickleball player and compare his talent to Roger Federer. Wild tweet, wild thought. Delete right now. I love pickle. But you had too many tequilas.

Kyrgios echoed the voices of many tennis fans who were witnessing players transitioning to paddle sports. Not only that, they also have to witness tennis courts being taken over for pickleball courts in various situations. Despite his critique of Alshon, Kyrgios enjoys pickleball just as much. He showed his love for the sport by investing in a team to increase its reach.

Nick Kyrgios’ major investment in a pickleball team!

Pickleball is a sport which saw its popularity skyrocket during the COVID-19 pandemic. As its reach increased, stars from all walks of life came forward to invest large sums in the sport. Most of the investments were made in American teams, and tennis fans saw Kyrgios and Naomi Osaka share big sums for the Miami Pickleball Club in 2022, effectively co-owning the team.

The tennis stars faced criticism from the tennis fan base as they were skeptical about the two players investing in the sport. However, Kyrgios shared a post on his Instagram story, which showed pickleball to be the sport that has increased the fastest since 2022, according to Sportico. His post was captioned, “Why would you invest in pickleball?” showing how he has dealt with skeptics and how his investment has given major returns.

Despite experiencing major profits from the sport, Kyrgios is aware of the distinction between pickleball and tennis and is not afraid to speak out whenever needed in favor of Tennis being at top in his view.
