Stan Wawrinka is back at the All-England Lawn Tennis Club with some of his most outstanding displays on the grass surface. The Swiss tennis star has already outclassed some players of high caliber in order to reach the third round of the major tournament in London. Now, the 38-year-old player is all set up for a face-off against his ferocious adversary, Novak Djokovic, in a high-profile match.

Prior to the blockbuster clash on the Centre Court, the former world No. 3 player made some big assertions about the Serbian tennis legend. While lavishing praise on the reigning French Open champion, the Swiss compared him to his close friend and compatriot, Roger Federer.

Stan Wawrinka is all praises for Novak Djokovic ahead of their thrilling match

The 38-year-old tennis star is having a great start to the ongoing Wimbledon Championship as he recently outshined the Argentine tennis player, T. Martín Etcheverry, in the second round of the tournament. In the post-match press conference, Wawrinka was asked about his upcoming opponent and the reigning Wimbledon champion, Novak Djokovic.

While lavishing praise on the currently ranked world No. 2 player’s game style, he put him in his compatriot, Roger Federer’s elite league. Wawrinka said, “Have you seen him play (smiling)? Give me 1 weakness.. He’s the perfect player. Everything is so clean. He plays the perfect shot in the right moment. I love to watch him, as much as I was loving to watch Roger play.”

The Swiss tennis player has made it clear that he is quite excited about his thrilling clash with the 7 time Wimbledon champion. If Wawrinka manages to outperform the Serb, he will join Federer in a rare feat in the men’s circuit.

Wawrinka might join Federer in pulling off a unique ‘Djokovic’ feat

The 20 singles Grand Slam champion is the only player in the men’s circuit who has outperformed Novak Djokovic at all 4 major events. During their meetings on the court, the former tennis ace defeated the Serb on six occasions in the Grand Slam tournaments. However, Wawrinka might also follow in his compatriot’s footsteps if somehow manages to beat the 36-year-old player in their forthcoming matchup.

The former world No. 3 player has already outclassed Djokovic in 3 of their 6 Grand Slam meetings that took place in the finals of the 2015 Roland Garros and the 2016 US Open. Even in the prior season, it was the Swiss tennis star who prevailed in their matchup at the Australian Open. Thus, Wawrinka can now pull off that unique ‘Djokovic’ feat with a victory at the ongoing Wimbledon Championship.
