Novak Djokovic, the 21-time Grand Slam champion, received a free pass to the ATP Finals this season. He, with the help of his Wimbledon win, which had no ranking points to offer this year, qualified for the season-ending tournament in Turin. Currently, he is competing for the title and has proven his worth, reaching the final without suffering a defeat in the round-robin stage.

However, as he performed well and reached the finals, a new topic was being discussed. People pointed out how he could be bagging a massive prize money if, in case, he seals the title.

Novak Djokovic gives a befitting response

After hearing about the question regarding the $4.7 million prize money awaiting him, he shared his thoughts. “Of course, people can see how much we are earning,” Djokovic said.

“What the media is not writing about is all the taxes and also the other expenses. But that’s fine. I can’t talk about money as an issue in my life or anything like that.” The former World no.1 added.

Thereafter, he explained, “I think every Euro i that I have earned was through hard sweat, and tears. I don’t take anything for granted because I know how it feels like having zero on the table five family members, war, sanctions.” Djokovic grew up in a war-torn country. However, his sheer perseverance kept him in the lane. He started playing tennis at the age of four and traveled around the world to reach where he is now.

Circling back to his 2022 ATP Finals run, the former World no.1  started his tournament by taking down the Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets. Thereafter, he outclassed the Russian youngster, Andrey Rublev, and his compatriot and former World no.1 Daniil Medvedev.

Djokovic out-muscled Medvedev in a thrilling three-set-long match to book a seat in the semifinals. In the semis, he again secured a straight-set win and now will look forward to serving the same fate to his opponent Casper Ruud in the championship match.

Djokovic’s record against Ruud

The Norwegian tennis ace has made it to the finals of yet another high-profile tournament this season. He earlier fought for the French Open and US Open titles and failed to secure both. Therefore, in order to end the year with a trophy in his hands and claim his first-ever victory against the Serb, he should be playing his best tennis.
