Roger Federer has been keeping out of the circuit for over a year now. The 20-time Grand Slam champion after incurring a quarterfinals defeat in last season’s Wimbledon walked out of the tour to tend to his pestering knee injury. Recently, John McEnroe voiced out his opinion about the impending return of the Swiss Maestro to the ATP tour.

He underwent surgery and currently is in rehab. Although Federer is a legendary player, people are skeptical about his form because of his advancing age. But legends such as John McEnroe believe that a player of his caliber can pull it off.

McEnroe weighs in on Federer’s future

The 7-time Grand Slam champion, McEnroe, who struggled with his fair share of injuries in playing days, understands the reality of the situation. But at the same time, he also knows the capabilities of Federer. He said, “He says he wants to play next year and who am I to say that he shouldn’t do that?”

Thereafter, he added,

“He should absolutely do whatever he wants. If he wants to play next year, and he’s even thinking about playing the Australian Open… And he ain’t going there to lose the first round.”

“So that will be an interesting decision he will make. I don’t know what will happen. He’s the most beautiful player I’ve ever seen, and he’s the epitome of class.” Federer is gearing up for a comeback towards the end of this season. After touching the headlines for losing his ranking for the first time in over 20 years, the Swiss legend’s name is again on the tip of everyone’s tongue, as he will soon appear in the Laver Cup.

The former World no.1 has utilized his unwanted but much needed break to its fullest. At first, he made a trip to Malawi to witness the change the Roger Federer Foundation has brought. Federer, played around with kids, observed them attend school and motivated his little fans to chase their dreams.
