In an exclusive radio podcast by ATP Tennis, Rune’s mother, Aneke Rune sheds some light on his personal life. From breaking into the top 100 at the beginning of 2022 to entering the top 10 by the end of it, Holger Rune has already established his prowess in the world of tennis. Ever since July, when he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals of the Wimbledon, Rune has failed to pick up his form. Mental health plays a crucial role in such cases. According to Rune’s mother, the secret to his success lies in filtering the negative comments coming from the media.

Aneke Rune considers social media to be a place where peace cannot be made with everybody. Speaking about Holger Rune, she said, he had a lot of s**t in the media but he also has a lot of fans and followers in the media.”

Aneke Rune feels that the ATP must take the initiative to block the sites that spread hate. She adds to it by saying that hatred is not constructive in any way. She also said, “It is important for his generation and his younger ones that someone dares to be themself.” Holger Rune’s current approach has his mother’s full support.

From a very young age, Holger Rune has found it very difficult to stay away from tennis. Aneke Rune said,when he was young, he saw it as a punishment to be removed from tennis.” Through her natural knowledge about her son, Aneke Rune is certain that Rune will eventually learn to cope with media in a better way.

Amidst poor form and a challenging social atmosphere, Holger Rune has a lot to figure out. Aneke Rune feels extremely positive about Rune’s future because of his step-by-step approach. She reveals that the time Rune spends outside the influence of media and fans is the time he gets to properly relax. Aneke Rune understands Rune’s love for tennis, she said, “It is just a matter of time when, when we get the Grand Slam, I guess.” Rune has recently bought a house in Copenhagen which according to his mother, has a relatively better environment for mental health.
