Dominic Thiem, a tennis prodigy from Austria, is widely considered one of the world’s best players even though his ranking suggests otherwise. Over the years, he has participated in several notable contests. He became the first player outside of the Big Three to win a Grand Slam tournament since 2016 when he took home the trophy at the 2020 US Open.

However, his injury has hampered his career to an extent. He suffered a wrist injury at the Mallorca Open a year before Wimbledon 2021 and was forced to sit out the rest of the tennis season. Last year, in conversation with Tennis Channel International, had a rather strange take on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s popularity over Sigmund Freud.

Dominic Thiem’s unusual take on Schwarzenegger’s popularity

It was on October 2021 when Tennis Channel International posted an Instagram video. The video was about Dominic Thiem answering quick-fire questions. In one of the questions, he was asked, “Who’s more popular between Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sigmund Freud?”. To which he answered by saying, “I think Arnold because he is a legend. He is still alive, so I guess he is more beloved.“

The former world No. 3 player had a long and difficult road back to tennis after wrist surgery. However, he finally managed to clinch his first match on tour after a long gap of 426 days. He returned to tennis earlier this year but has nowhere looked like the same player he used to be back in 2020 and 2021.

“This Is the Right Way To Start” – Dominic Thiem Finally Announces Return to Tennis at ATP Challenger Tournament in Spain

The 29-year-old suffered a losing streak in his first 10 matches back on the ATP Tour. But fortunately, he worked hard to get back into tennis shape and defeated Filip Misolic 6-4, 7-5 in the Round 32 of the Sweden Open in Salzburg, Austria.

Looking back on his career, Dominic can count himself fortunate even though he was sidelined for a long time due to his injury. For those unfamiliar, he made history by becoming the first player born in the 1990s to win a Grand Slam. Regardless of the result, he has reached the Major Championship finals on three separate occasions.
