The 22-time Grand Slam champion values each and every gift he receives. Therefore, once when one of his prized watches was stolen, he was devastated.

A guilt-ridden Rafael Nadal

Richard Mille, the founder of ultra high-end luxury watches brand Richard Mille, sat down for an interview in 2012 after the extreme success of the RM027 collection. He spoke about how Rafael Nadal was soaked in sorrow about losing the $500,000 worth model. “He was devastated.” Mille said. Nadal has been the face of the company since 2010 and has always had a good relation with the Swiss owner.

Thereafter, he detailed, “He told me, Ricardo, it’s all my fault. I am so sorry. I told him, Don’t worry, it’s only a material thing don’t spoil your victory.”

He had gone for a celebratory dinner, leaving the RM027 behind. Mr. Mille later said that Nadal was relieved to find out about the retrieval of the stolen watch. The Spaniard texted him, ‘I’m so happy, I’m so relieved!’.

Nadal’s struggles with his foot issue

The former world no.1 has suffered a lot because of his foot injury. Last year, he had to cut his season short because of the recurrent issue, and this year, the same issue resurfaced during the clay court season.

But in typical Nadal fashion, he made a rousing comeback and bagged the Grand Slam in Paris for a record 14th time. However, following that, he admitted that his injury could obstruct his future and decided to undergo a medical procedure. He opted for a radio frequency treatment to numb the nerve ends and currently seems in a better state. Although it still has the potential to cause problems in the future, for now the Spaniard is in ready to battle for the last Grand Slam of the season at Flushing Meadows.
