Danish international Holger Rune and Casper Ruud came face to face in the quarterfinal of the ongoing French Open 2022. In an enthralling game, Ruud won 6-1 4-6 7-6 (2) 6-3  to book his place in the semifinals. However, the main talking point was the behavior of the young Danish star.

Currently, the World No. 40 is receiving severe backlash for his behavior on the court. However, the young Danish sensation has finally opened up with his side of the story.

Holger Rune defends his on-court behavior

The teenager revealed that he wasn’t impressed with Ruud shouting at his face in the locker room. He was also disappointed by the Norwegian talking to him during the match and complaining about his mark check.

“I did not want to give him a hug after. He got a high five and then I just had to get away. He was so unsportsmanlike during the match and talked to me over and over again,” Rune said.

Not to mention, the 19-year-old’s erratic behavior was also on display when he shouted at his mother, following which she left the box. Holger’s mother has been very supportive of her son and fans were not at all impressed with his actions on the court.

Ruud to meet Marin Cilic in the semifinal

After an eventful quarterfinal game against Holger Rune, the 23-year-old will lock horns with Croatian tennis star Marin Cilic. Interestingly, it will be the first French Open semifinal for both players. Notably, Ruud will go into the game riding on his nine-match winning streak. Also, the 33-year-old Croatian beat Andrey Rublev in a five-set long game to make it through to the semifinal.

Even though Cilic is a seasoned campaigner, the youngster can not be taken lightly as he is in brilliant form. The Norwegian recently defended his Geneva Open title and now he has won seven out of his eight ATP titles on clay.

Talking about their head-to-head records, the World No. 8 leads Cilic 2-0 and will brace his chances against him. However, the pressure at the top level of the Grand Slam is completely different and will require special effort from the young Norwegian to go past an experienced opponent.
