Perhaps the greatest example of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s camaraderie was seen during the grand valediction of the Swiss legend during the Laver Cup in September 2022. The images of the tearful duo holding each other’s hands are still fresh in the minds of millions of sports fans.

In an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, renowned tennis photographer Antoine Couvercelle, who had the opportunity to cover Laver Cup 2022, shared details regarding the pair’s emotional interaction on that night. Speaking of the series of events that unfolded after Federer’s final act on the court, he said, “Rafa started to touch the leg of Federer.. He was the first one. Few people know that, but Rafa was the first one to put a hand on the leg of Roger.. And then Roger put his hand on the leg and then on the hand of Rafa.. It was like, maybe 2 seconds.”
