Though when the peak of the pandemic passed, tournaments opened their gates for the Serb. Thus ending the debate about right and wrong amongst fans. However, a recent declaration from the fourth and last Grand Slam of the year has reignited the discussion.
Novak Djokovic is again under the microspore
With the US Open’s decision to not let the Serbian legend take part in the upcoming event over his vaccination status, the entire tennis fraternity has something or other to pitch in. On one hand, there are people such as Benjamin Butterworth who are denouncing Djokovic for his rigidness. Butterworth is and renowned journalist according to whom vaccination is important. As he argued, “Djokovic is one of the most famous sports stars and he chose a platform that lots of people admire him for being a remarkable tennis player, and he used that to put people off getting the vaccine.”
'Benjamin, you are suffering psychologically from Covid anxiety syndrome.'

“…The report from the Lancet, it says that an estimated 14.4 million people have had their lives saved by virtue of having the vaccine. And the highest estimates from around the world of people that died after having the vaccine is 77,000. What Novak Djokovic did is put people at risk. And that’s why he’s a disgrace.” Butterworth concluded.
However, on the other hand, some people understand the nine times Australian Open champion’s thought process and are defending him. Such as doctor Tonia Buxton who countered Butterworth’s claims.

Buxton in Djokovic’s defense
While sitting beside the journalist and going through the points that he put forth to back his argument, Buxton did interrupt. Though in the end, she decided to wait and present a strong counterargument. She spoke on behalf of the tennis ace and all the other people out there who are avoiding the vaccine. And said, “The vaccine may have made a difference to the first virus that came out. Unfortunately, there is absolutely no analytical proof that this vaccine does anything on the omicron variant.
