But thanks to Tsitsipas‘s text, the Laver Cup 2021 started with Federer’s presence in the crowd. It wasn’t a surprise for the fans but also the Greek professional.

“I got a text from Stefanos saying where I am, he’s missing me, and he needs me on the team. I didn’t tell him I am coming so that it’ll be a surprise,” Federer explained.

Throughout Day 1, the 20-time Grand Slam champion enjoyed the matches from the stands. He even went to the Team Europe locker room to congratulate Andrey Rublev on his close win against Diego Schwartzman.
