In 2019, Roger Federer traveled to Argentina for an exhibition match against Alexander Zverev. During that event, he met probably his oldest fan, named Dorothea, in a heartwarming gesture.

It’s true that Federer has been a generational superstar, as he has fans in many age groups. Since making turning pro in 1998, many people became fans of the Swiss Maestro. Certainly, 107-year-old Dorothea is one of them, as she has been a fan of the 20-time Grand Slam winner her whole life.

Roger Federer met his oldest fan in Argentina
In 2019, ESPN released a documentary called, ‘Roger Federer: Everywhere is Home’ where they showed the footage of Federer meeting his superfan, Dorthea. While waiting inside the hotel, Dorthea said, “We are going to see Roger… A tremendous event…“

In reply, the superfan said, “Everyone… Everyone… There’s no other program when you play, I cut all of… and I see you.“
Later, she described the experience of meeting Federer as, “He looked a little bit different than he looks on photos. Younger, because all people say ‘oh he should stop playing tennis, he is too old now’. He is not at all old. It’s ridiculous. They have no idea, what’s old and what’s young.“

Notably, Federer has been hearing about retirement rumors since winning the 2012 Wimbledon Championships. After that, he did not win a Grand Slam tournament for nearly five years. However, he made a tremendous comeback in 2017, by winning both the Australian Open and the Wimbledon Championships.
Can Federer win another Grand Slam?
The last few years have not gone in favor of the Swiss maestro, as he has not won a single Grand Slam title since the 2018 Australian Open. Meanwhile, his rivals Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have been racking up Grand Slam titles.

A few weeks ago, the Swiss Maestro posted some workout photos and videos on social media, as he is preparing for his comeback to the tour. Notably, Federer has not played since the 2021 Wimbledon quarter-final. Now, he will make his official comeback at the Laver Cup in September and will later play in the Swiss Indoors Basel.

However, he will most likely miss all the Grand Slam tournaments this year, including the only remaining Grand Slam in 2022, the US Open. He is hopeful of making a comeback in the 2023 Australian Open. But his best chance to win a Grand Slam is still at Wimbledon, as grass is his favorite surface.
