Federer is always looked up to as one of the humblest sports icons. His legendary performances have stunned the audience, yet the man seems to hold his composure without being overwhelmed by his legacy. While Roger fans love how he plays it cool irrespective of how he fares in a game, some tennis fans don’t see him as “the humble one”. A few years ago, a video surfaced on Twitter where Federer fans had to step in to debate Team Djokovic.

Recently, a Nole fan posted the same video, causing a rift between the fanbases again. While Federer fans and even many Djokovic fans see nothing wrong with the way Roger acts, some tennis enthusiasts are basing Federer’s entire personality on the video. While one side debates how it would be rude for Federer to act otherwise, the other has made it a point to roast them brutally.
Roger Federer versus Novak Djokovic- a fan-favorite on Twitter
The six-second video is claimed to be shot after Federer’s loss to Djokovic in 2015 at the Wimbledon. In what seems like a narrow hotel corridor, Roger passes Djokovic and his wife Jelena in a warm embrace. Roger Federer is seemingly unruffled by the very intimate embrace of the couple before him. He quietly passes by them without making any contact.
For Federer fans and in fact, many Djokovic fans, this act is completely normal. However, others think that this negligence towards the world no.1 is Federer’s sour attitude after losing a match.
Either way, the fiesty Twitter debate has redeemed itself once again before the Australian Open 2023.

Some tennis enthusiasts have labelled these tweets a “crazy obsession” that haters have with Federer, surprisingly even after his retirement.
Y’all’s obsession with this man even in retirement is a mental illness 😭 https://t.co/xcdGVd2MEF

Some fans have accepted openly that they are not rooters for Federer and even then they cannot support this argument.
Not federers biggest fan but wtf was he meant to do? https://t.co/tVALBIugBv

Some Nolerats are obsessed with lowering Roger?? I just see Rog was really polite in this vid, and how funny they immediately focused on him instead of the couple when he was just walking straight away🤟 https://t.co/e9M4ZGoSII

He's supposed to kiss them or what? https://t.co/gEespJ67bh

While it does look like a very private and emotional moment between Djokovic and his wife, the roasts on Team Djokovic do stand valid. The short soundless video really does not provide a lot of insight into the context. Maybe if Djokovic fans explain this better, the confusion will subside.
what was he supposed to do, get in for a three some? https://t.co/nl0wM6PZZQ

Shame on Roger for not asking Novak and Jelena for a group picture after losing https://t.co/jMsA1HRead

While the debate continues, some fans have provided an explanation about what Federer could have done to avoid this situation.
It’s really not a big deal but I think just any kind of acknowledgement would’ve been a tad more honorable than just passing them by like they’re strangers on a bus station.

This video gained a lot of popularity back in 2015 as well and neither Federer nor Djokovic responded to the situation.

The Wimbledon 2015 men’s final
After having won Wimbledon in 2014, Djokovic returned to reclaim the title as the defending champion in 2015. The match was not an everyday gig for Federer who had taken second place in 2014 as well. In a match that progressed to the 4th set, Djokovic defeated Federer 7–6, 6–7, 6–4, 6–3.
This Wimbledon final that seems like a re-match won Nole his third Wimbledon title. The match could be a huge pivotal gain for Federer who would have become the first man to win Wimbledon eight times if he succeeded. However, Federer did leave behind this legacy with the 2017 Wimbledon.
