It’s been a while since Rafael Nadal showcased his sheer on-court brilliance, delivering an array of exceptional shots. However, the Spanish tennis superstar, who was away from the tour owing to his hip injury, has now delighted fans with his comeback news. As he prepares for the upcoming season, there is a new twist, according to his uncle and former coach, Toni Nadal‘s recent disclosures.

After recovering from his injury woes that also required surgery, the ‘King of the Clay’ will mark his participation at the Brisbane International. Speaking about his return to the competitive game, Nadal’s uncle recently opened up about how the Spaniard’s fitness levels may not be the same on the court as they used to be a decade ago.

Rafael Nadal’s uncle gets real about the Spaniard’s comeback

At the age of 37, the 22-time singles Grand Slam champion will be making his comeback on the tour after struggling with his injury woes. Notably, in a recent conversation with RMC Radio’s Bartoli Time program, Toni Nadal asserted that his nephew’s legs aren’t the same as they were 10 years ago.

“We know that his legs aren’t the same as they were 10 years ago,” the 62-year-old coach said. However, Toni Nadal also asserted that his nephew’s determination hasn’t changed, as he is still passionate about the sport. The Spanish coach added, “But in his head nothing has changed. He still has the same determination.”

“He has the will to still be here, he loves tennis, he loves competition, he loves the game,” Toni Nadal added. While speaking about the 37-year-old player’s chances in the upcoming season, Nadal’s uncle also brought to light his nephew’s ‘dream’ after his comeback on the tour.

During the interview, Toni Nadal opened up about the 37-year-old player’s dreams of having a good season after his comeback on the tour. Even though the Spaniard knows it’s going to be a very difficult task, Nadal still wants to compete at a very high level again.

Particularly in the Roland Garros, where he has marked fourteen triumphs, the 62-year-old coach asserted that his nephew dreams of playing there again. The Spanish coach said, “He’s back in training with good intensity, with the most important thing being the (dream) of playing the French Open again.”
