Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev have been involved in some nail-biting encounters this season. They had recently met in the Piedmont capital for the 6th time this year. But this time the Russian got the better of the German with a 7-6(7), 6-4 margin victory in the ATP Finals group stage match. However, Zverev’s hilarious attempt at hitting a tweener during the match stole the show. What was it?

Zverev made some valiant efforts during the match and he looked the better player on the court. But Medvedev had the last laugh over the two-time winner of the season-ending competition. Alexander Zverev speaks up on his hilarious attempt to hit a tweener against Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev had to win in straight sets to secure the spot in the last four. While Zverev would have qualified for the semis with just a win over the former number 1. But it didn’t happen and now the Russian leads the H2H race with an 11-7 margin. Zverev’s efforts were clearly portrayed throughout the match but one failed attempt to hit a tweener made him smile in the middle of the match. Here’s what he says on those little moments of the match and the road ahead of him in Turin.

I mean, in this kind of match, yeah, there are a lot of emotions. I mean, I tried to hit a tweener and hit my own b**l. That’s the reason I was smiling there (smiling). Yeah, it was frustrating at times because obviously not winning the first set is very crucial. It’s also very crucial in mathematics to go through because I feel like I’m playing well. Now it’s a little bit also out of my hands again. If Alcaraz wins, then he’s through. It’s frustrating because I think the tennis that I played maybe deserved more than losing in straight sets in a way. Also, again, if I don’t qualify, then I don’t have anybody to blame. It’s kind of my fault,” said Alexander Zverev.

However, even after the loss to Medvedev, the road to the semifinals is wide open for Zverev. With a little bit of luck in favor of the German, fans could witness Zverev taking on 27YO Russian yet again in the final on Sunday.
