Nick Kyrgios’ dream run at the 2022 US Open has finally come to an end. Karen Khachanov defeated the Australian star in an enthralling five-set match. Kyrgios, who was into his maiden US Open quarterfinals, lost out steam in the deciding set of his quarterfinal match to bow out of the tournament.

Much was expected out of Kyrgios, who had earlier caused the upset of the tournament by knocking out World Number 1, Daniil Medvedev. After his US Open exit, Kyrgios opened up about his emotions.

During the post-match press conference after his loss against Khachanov, Kyrgios revealed how painful the defeat was. Talking about this, he said, “Yeah, I mean, yeah, they do. I honestly feel like s**t. I feel like I’ve let so many people down.”

Further, he went on to add, “I just don’t know. I feel like I’m playing Tokyo and stuff. But, like, I feel like these four tournaments are the only ones that ever are going to matter. It’s just like you got to start it all again.”

Talking about the expectations from him, Kyrgios said, “I have to wait till Australian Open. It’s just devastating. Like, it’s heartbreaking. Not just for me, but for everyone that I know that wants me to win.” 

Who will Karen Khachanov face next at the US Open?

With Medvedev’s defeat to Kyrgios in the fourth round, the top half of the draw has opened up. After defeating Kyrgios, Khachanov will face the challenge of Casper Ruud of Norway. The latter is the fifth seed at the tournament and in some great form this year. Earlier this season, he reached the French Open final before going down against Rafael Nadal in the summit clash.

Further, Ruud and Khachanov have faced off against each other just once, with the former coming out on top. Fans will wait to see who reaches the US Open final this year as this promises to be an exciting battle.
