Cameron Norrie reveals Andy Murray’s love for travelling

Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry defeated Andy Murray by 6-4,6-2,6-2 in the first round of the 2024 AO. Murray was making a comeback at the Grand Slam, having undergone hip surgery. Although he managed to give a fight in the first set, but in the next two, it was almost a one-sided battle. The 36-year-old British superstar looked in tears as he lifted his racket bags at the end of the match. He applauded the crowd for their incredible support at the Show Court Arena.

This was Murray’s only second, first-round defeat at the Grand Slam in almost 16 years. He looked devastated after this terrible loss and hinted at something which his fans would have never wanted to hear. But his compatriot, Cameron Norrie is still optimistic with the former no.1’s run at next year’s AO. He said, ‘Yeah, I mean, yeah, he’s obviously had an unbelievable career and he keeps grinding. He loves travelling, he loves the sport. I mean, I think he’s still playing well, really, really well, and he’s still so dedicated. I think he’ll be ready to go in the next one, for sure.

Murray is disappointed with his performance in Melbourne

Andy Murray has now faced Tomas Martin Etcheverry thrice in his career. The Argentinian leads the H2H with a 2-1 margin after his latest victory. Here’s what Murray said after his recent defeat, “It’s a definite possibility that will be the last time I play here. [I’m] just disappointed with the way I played. Wish I had involved the crowd more. Yeah, tough, tough way to finish.”

Now with Murray’s exit, British fans will look up to Cameron Norrie to do some wonders in the ‘Land Down Under.’ Can he do it? Well, he had a good start to his campaign after defeating Peru’s Juan Pablo Varillas by 6-4,6-4,6-4 at the Show Court 2 on Tuesday. He’ll now face Italy’s Giulio Zeppieri in his next match on Thursday.
