‘How Does That Work?’- Russian Star Andrey Rublev Points Out Preferential Treatment Given to Players Like Alexander Zverev, Matteo Berrettini on the ATP Tour

Andrey Rublev is back on the court and has reached the fourth round of the US Open. The player missed out on the whole grass-court season because of the ban on Russian and Belarusian players. World no. 11 made his comeback in the hard-court season and is performing decently. He enjoyed his time judiciously before the beginning of the US Open.

However, he expressed his doubts and discontent over not being able to be around the top stars like other players. Rublev narrated some incidents where he expressed his confusion as to how the players get seats in the front rows.

Andrey Rublev questions IMG his disadvantage at concerts and other games

Rublev visited the concert of Harry Styles and 21 Pilots. The player said, “I went Monday and Friday to Harry Styles, and Tuesday to Twenty Pilots.” He really liked Twenty One Pilots and said, “I would have liked to go to Twenty Pilots again but they only performed one time.”

Furthermore, he was asked if he could meet them, he jokingly took a dig at the International Management Group (IMG). He said, “No, they don’t do those things for me.” Rublev shared his confusion over the matter and said, “I don’t know how all the players they met all the stars.” He narrated one incident and stated, “You can’t imagine, I asked once to go to an NBA game in Miami and they gave me the last, last row at the top. And I think I was top 10 at the time.”

World no. 11 is really trying to figure out a way to be in the front row. He said, “And then I see all the players, Zverev, Sonego, Berrettini, Ruud, all of them in the first row, taking pics with all the stars and I say, ‘How does that work?’ And I still want to know how that works.”

Rublev in the hard-court major

Rublev could not play at the grass-court major because of the ban by Wimbledon on Russian and Belarusian players. He had expressed his concern for the victims of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and had propagated for peace. The player made his comeback at the Citi Open and reached the semi-finals.
