Once the leading player on the tour, Roger Federer has been struggling with injuries for more than two years now. Despite wanting to perform, the knee of the Swiss has acted as a major hindrance during the latter years of his career.

The former World No.1 underwent two knee surgeries during the pandemic in 2020. Making a slight comeback to the game in 2021, he was again forced to undergo a third surgery on his knee in August last year. Currently, in rehab, the Swiss maestro is expected to make a comeback later this year.

Roger Federer working hard on his comeback

Going back in time, Rafael Nadal shocked the world with his win at the 2022 Australian Open. Reacting to the win, Federer dropped in a heartfelt message for his Spanish counterpart. Adding on to it, a couple of days after Nadal’s win, Federer gave an update about his comeback to the sport.

Yesterday, the 10th of July, Novak Djokovic outplayed Nick Kyrgios in the final of the 2022 Wimbledon Championships to win his 7th title at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

While the world celebrated the Serb’s win, Federer moved a step further in making his comeback. Using Djokovic’s win as a major source of motivation, the Swiss legend said, “My main focus is on how to make my comeback in tennis. I work hard on that and I think about it every day.”

When will Federer be back on the tour?

Even though Federer and Djokovic last played each other in the semifinals of the 2020 Australian Open, the two recently shook hands with each other during the Centenary Celebrations of the Centre Court at Wimbledon. However, fans are eager to see him back on tour, competing for the major trophies.

As of now, Federer is expected to participate in the Laver Cup. As per his announcement, the 40-year-old will make his official comeback to the tour at the Swiss Indoors Basel later this year.
