Hubert Hurkacz has been on the tour since 2015. However, it was the year 2021 that made him a prominent name in men’s tennis. From someone who ended the year 2020 as World No. 34, he steadily became a player who ended the year 2021 as World No. 9.

The Polish player is currently trying his luck on the hard courts of North America. Suffering a first-round loss in the Citi Open, he made a strong comeback in Canada and is currently preparing himself for the final. However, despite tasting success at the Canadian Open, he doesn’t seem to have forgotten the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. As a result, the 25-year-old recently announced a move focused on helping people struggling in Ukraine.

Hubert Hurkacz to hit aces for Ukraine

With a strong game coupled with a 6’5″ height, Hurkacz is not new to hitting aces. While the Polish player hits aces to win matches, it will have some added incentives in the 2022 US Open series. Hurkacz recently took to Twitter, announcing a donation of 100 euros to Ukraine for every ace he hits during the US Open swing.

“Each ace that I hit during the US Open Series swing also equals 100 euro to The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity to help supply Ukraine with medical aid. I hope to serve as many aces as possible until the end of the US Open.

The announcement is identical to his pledge at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Heading to Wimbledon, Hurkacz made a similar announcement of donating 100 euros for every ace he hits at the Championships. Despite suffering a first-round loss, he managed to hit 20 aces, totaling up to 2000 euros of donation.

Statistically, Hubert is one of the best servers of the game. Ever since his debut in 2015, the 25-year-old has hit 1,746 aces till the 2022 Citi Open. With 483 serves till the 2022 Citi Open, he sits on the 7th spot in the 2022 ATP Aces leaderboard.

Hurkacz heading for his first North American title

In the hopes of avenging his first round Citi Open loss, Hurkacz kicked off the Canadian Open on a high note. Entering the tournament as the 8th seed, he started his Montreal campaign with a first-round win over Emil Ruusuvuori. Holding his nerves, he next outplayed Spanish star, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, in the second round.

With impressive performances in the first two rounds, he next went on to beat the 2022 Wimbledon finalist, Nick Kyrgios, in the quarterfinals. Maintaining his strong game, he further outplayed 4th seeded Casper Ruud in the semifinal to move into his first ever Masters final in North America. Hurkacz is set to face Spanish sensation Pablo Carreño Busta in the finals.
