Bear Grylls is a wildlife adventurist who saw his fame skyrocket after his involvement in the Man vs. Wild reality TV series. Ever since Grylls shared a plethora of wildlife survival tips with his viewers, he has even had several celebrities join him for a special episode on Man vs. Wild. Even the former President of the United States, Barack Obama, joined the British survival expert. Roger Federer also joined Grylls in a special. The episode aired in July 2018 and Federer said that being on the show was a ‘bit different’ than playing at his favorite Grand Slam event, Wimbledon.

In the Man vs. Wild episode featuring Federer, Grylls took him through the Swiss Alps. The two navigated through the terrain, went down frozen waterfalls and even used tennis rackets as snow shoes. During the episode, Federer advised Grylls about his tennis stance.

Three years before he retired, Federer was preparing for the Wimbledon 2019. He was the figure most associated with the grass Grand Slam event at the time. Vogue interviewed him in a segment where they ask the personality 73 questions. The interviewer asked Federer a range of questions, including his idols, favorite opponent and most dreaded opponent – both Rafael Nadal – and a lot more.

Federer was also asked about his time with the Man vs. Wild star Bear Grylls. The last question that was asked to him was about his time in surviving Man vs. Wild and surviving Wimbledon. The Swiss Maestro recalled that the time on the show was quite different than any of his stint. Federer stated that he peed on a fire in Man vs Wild, an activity he has never done anywhere else.

He added that Grylls came to watch his match, and he sat in the Royal Box. A bit different. In Bear Grylls’ show, I did freeze, and I peed over the fire. I didn’t do that here at Wimbledon, and Bear Grylls was actually sitting over there in the Royal Box with the Royals attending the finals and my team was sitting over there with my lovely wife. A wonderful moment,” Federer said at the end of the interview.
