From Grand Slams to Masters-category events, the Swiss Maestro has enjoyed a number of title-winning runs on the court. Even in one of his lackluster seasons back in 2011, when he failed to win a major title, the former tennis ace still managed to add the Paris Masters to his enviable trophy haul.

However, Federer’s triumph in the tournament was not without difficulties, as his parental responsibilities had a significant impact at one point. According to his previous disclosures, the ATP legend’s parenting duties nearly cost him the 2011 Paris Masters trophy and a whopping €454,000 prize money.

Roger Federer had to diligently follow his parental duties during the 2011 Paris Masters

In one of the excerpts from The Master, Roger Federer revealed how he had to juggle his responsibilities as a parent and an athlete as he was accompanied by his twin daughters and wife, Mirka. Due to this, the 20-time singles Grand Slam champion didn’t get much sleep the night before his championship match at the 2011 Paris Masters.

Reminiscing about his campaign in Paris, the Swiss Maestro opened up about how one of his twin daughters had woken him and his wife up at 4:00 a.m. “Mirka told me, ‘All right, we’re taking her in our bed,” the former tennis ace said. Federer went on to reveal how he agreed with the decision, saying he didn’t want any arguments at four in the morning.

“I didn’t even argue. I took her in the bed. You especially don’t want to have an argument at four in the morning,” he added. Though parental duties certainly impacted his sleep, the Swiss tennis legend went on to win the title while pulling off another rare feat in Paris.

Roger Federer won the 2011 Paris Masters title in style

The 2011 Paris Masters is one of the few tournaments where the former tennis ace enjoyed a triumphant run without dropping a single set. After brushing aside the likes of Adrian Mannarino and Richard Gasquet, Federer secured a place in the quarter-final clash against Juan Monaco. Later, the Swiss maestro once again managed to clinch a straight-set win, as he was then set up for a semi-final match against Tomas Berdych.

Roger Federer went on to reach his first-ever final at the Paris Masters after defeating Berdych in yet another one-side matchup, 6-4, 6-3. In the blockbuster championship match, the Swiss beat 6th-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 6-1, 7-6, to secure the crown without dropping a single set throughout the tournament.
