‘I Don’t Drink Alcohol’- Novak Djokovic Says He Was Forced by His Coach to Down a Beer at the Wimbledon Championships 2022

Yesterday, the 10th of July, Novak Djokovic closed the gap between himself and his great rival, Rafael Nadal, in the race to secure the most Grand Slam titles. The Serb claimed his fourth Wimbledon Championships title in a row to increase his Grand Slam title count to 21. Playing against Nick Kyrgios of Australia, the 35-year-old produced some scintillating tennis to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3).

After a tough year so far, the top seed has finally clinched his first Grand Slam title of the year. After his triumph, the Wimbledon 2022 champion attended an interview with the Tennis Channel. During the interview, legendary tennis player Martina Navratilova asked him about his favorite drink. The answer from 35-year-old surprised everyone.

Novak Djokovic doesn’t drink alcohol

In conversation with Djokovic, Navratilova said, everyone has a favorite drink. Replying to her question, the 21-time Grand Slam champion said,

“I am actually still awaiting my first meal after the match. I haven’t had much of food. You know I don’t drink alcohol. I mean, I haven’t had a beer in years,” he said.

However, the Serb admitted to having a beer, this time, as his coach Goran forced him.

“I was forced by my coach Goran today just beer, so we had a beer. I didn’t enjoy it so much,” he added.

The Serb’s words prove that his dedication to remain at the peak of his health and fitness is one of the reasons for his dominance of men’s tennis over the past decade.

Djokovic praises Nick Kyrgios

Addressing the media after his victory in the finals, Djokovic praised his opponent Nick Kyrgios for his brilliant run in the tournament.

“Congrats to you and your team for an amazing tournament, I wish you all the best man. I really, really respect you a lot. I think you are a phenomenal tennis player and athlete and amazing talent,” he said.

Even though the Serb was the overwhelming favorite going into the finals, Kyrgios gave a tough challenge by winning the first set. Prior to this win, Djokovic had played two matches against Kyrgios. The Aussie was victorious in both.

With this win, Djokovic went ahead of Federer in the list of most Grand Slam title winners. Spaniard Rafael Nadal still sits on top with 22 titles, followed by Djokovic (21) and Federer (20).
