Novak Djokovic has had it all this year. From the lows of his Australian Open controversy to the highs of winning the Wimbledon title, the Serbian star is having a turbulent 2022 season. Moreover, he lost the top spot in the ATP rankings after failing to defend his French Open title.

However, he had a memorable run in the recently concluded Wimbledon Championships. Djokovic defeated Kyrgios in the final to lift his 21st Grand Slam title and race ahead of Roger Federer in the list of most Grand Slam men’s singles titles. Recently, he opened up about his participation in the upcoming Grand Slam tournaments.

Novak Djokovic hopeful of participating in the US Open and the Australian Open

During an interview, the former World Number 1 talked about playing in the upcoming Grand Slam tournaments. He said, “Not gonna go to America if I don’t have a permission. The Australian saga for me was of course not pleasant at all. But what people probably, still most of the people think that I forced my way to Australia and try to come in with no papers and permission and exemption, which is not true and there was actually proven on the court case. So, I would never go into a country where I don’t have a permission to travel.”

Further, he added, “So, I would love to come back to Australia. I love Australia, I’ve had the best Grand Slam results in that country. So hopefully, in January, I can be there because I want to be there and I also want to be in New York, I want to be in America, want to be everywhere where I can possibly play.”

Talking about his political interests, he said, “I am a professional tennis player. I don’t go into politics, I don’t go into anything else because that doesn’t interest me. I have my stance and I have proponed it always for freedom to choose what is best for you and I respect everything and everybody and I expect at least people to respect my decision.”

Djokovic inaugurates tennis complex in Visoko

Recently, the 21-time Grand Slam champion was in Bosnia and Herzegovina to inaugurate a tennis complex at controversial Bosnian ‘pyramids’. He even played exhibition matches with Croatian Ivan Dodig, Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia, and Bosnian tennis player Aldin Setkic.

Djokovic is still unsure of his participation in the upcoming tournaments, awaiting a clearance to play owing to his vaccination status.
