‘I Have Worked a Lot’: Juan Martin del Potro Shares Exciting New Update Ahead of His Awaited Return

33-year-old Juan Martin del Potro is finally back on the circuit after almost three years. The Argentine tennis player had suffered from a fractured kneecap in 2019 and had not played on the tour since.
However, that is set to change, as he has finally recovered and is set to play this week. In fact, he is going to play not one, but two clay-court tournaments this month, marking his return.
Del Potro accepted two wild cards and will be playing at home in Buenos Aires, as well as Rio de Janeiro.

Juan Martin del Potro is excited to return to the tour
Because of a fracture in 2019, Juan Martin del Potro underwent surgery and has not returned to the tour since. His recovery process took two-and-a-half years off his career, but the former World No. 3 is far from done.
“I have worked a lot,” said del Potro about his return to the tennis circuit. Over the course of the past couple of years, del Potro said he has “made all the effort to be with you (tennis fans) in the next few weeks”.

As he takes to the court in Buenos Aires for practice ahead of his return, Juan Martin del Potro took to Twitter to share his excitement. “How nice it will be to see them again!” he tweeted, talking about the tennis crowds who have not been able to cheer for him in over two years.
Practicing on the fourth-oldest tournament stadium in the world, del Potro took to the center court at the Guille Vilas Stadium in Argentina. The 2009 US Open champion was 30 years of age when he last played against Denis Shapovalov in 2019. He was the World No. 12 at the time of his exit and is now ranked 757.

It was during their match in London, at the Fever-Tree Championships at the Queen’s Club, that Juan suffered the injury. Nevertheless, the 22-time title winner finished the match before seeking medical treatment. In fact, he walked away from the court victorious, defeating Shapovalov 7-5, 6-4.
Fans will finally see del Potro back in action
The Argentina Open starts from the 7th of February, where Juan Martin del Potro will finally grace the tennis court again. On the other hand, he is also set to play in the Rio Open, which starts on the 12th.
Thus, fans will be delighted to see the Tower of Tandil play not just one, but two consecutive tournaments. Of course, one hopes that everything goes well and according to plan, and that del Potro remains healthy throughout his comeback stint.
Even 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick congratulated del Potro on his return, wishing him good luck on Twitter.
