Casper Ruud is one of the most promising players in the current generation. As this season progressed, he became a regular in the last rounds of major tournaments. The Norwegian tennis ace earlier made it to the finals of the clay-based Grand Slam in Paris and now aced the hard courts in Flushing Meadows to play for the trophy at the US Open final.

Though, just like in the French Open, he failed to outclass his opponent. Ruud lost the chance to win his first-ever Grand Slam trophy twice this year, both to a Spaniard. Therefore, he made a funny remark during the post-match press conference at the US Open.
Casper Ruud on losing two Grand Slam finals to Spaniards
While speaking to the press after his defeat against Alcaraz, Caper Rudd spoke about facing Spanish professionals in the finals. He said, “I guess I hope I don’t play a Spanish player if I reach another Grand Slam finals.”

Thereafter he added, “They know what they are doing in the Slam finals, so let’s hope for another than a Spanish.” Ruud got the better of the former World No.6 Matteo Berrettini and Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios-slayer Karen Khachanov to book a match with the 19-year-old Alcaraz.

Though in the Arthur Ashe Stadium, after losing the first and reviving himself in the second set, the World no.7 lost two consecutive sets and missed his chance to lift the US Open trophy.

Ruud in the French Open
After outclassing the former World No. 28 João Sousa in the finals of the ATP 250 event at Geneva, Ruud jumped onto the clay courts of France. There, he took down the Polish tennis professional and former World no.9 Hubert Hurkacz to enter the second week of the tournament.

In the quarterfinals, the 23-year-old first locked horns with the Bavarian International champion Holger Rune. Rune’s defeat in a four set long match brought Ruud an experienced opponent in the next round. Marin Čilić, the 2014 US Open champion, posed a threat to his seat in the finals.

However, the Norwegian star got past the Croatian at the expense of a set and met the then 21-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal. Nadal, who was eyeing his 14th French Open title, thrashed Rudd in straight sets of 6-3 6-3 6-0 in the finals at the Court Philippe-Chatrier.
