“I Just Wanted to Learn”: Nick Kyrgios Recalls Meeting NBA Legend Scottie Pippen and Roger Federer

Laver Cup is unquestionably one of the most exclusive tennis tournaments in the world. Every year, it brings the sport’s finest players and competes them in a Team Europe against Team World format. Indeed, its star-studded lineup has graced fans with some of the most memorable tennis moments over the years. Only recently, Aussie maverick and Team World player Nick Kyrgios shared his top moments of the Laver Cup.

Notably, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have played as a team and doubles partners in Laver Cup. But when it comes to tennis entertainment, there is hardly anyone that comes to mind before the bad boy of tennis.

Speaking of a memorable moment at the iconic tournament, the 26-year-old recalled when he met NBA legend Scottie Pippen in the Chicago edition. Also, he included the Media Day at the Chicago Bean with none other than Roger Federer.

As part of Episode 8 of this year’s Laver Cup, the video focused entirely on one of Kyrgios‘ top moments of the tournament. In that, he opened up on the experience during the Chicago Takeover.

“That was one of, probably, my favorite weeks of the Laver Cup,” Kyrgios said. “You know, I had to fly there early and got to meet Scottie Pippen as well as spending another day with Roger in Chicago, seeing some of the best sites.”

Furthermore, the Australian international shared the experience of the Media Day with Roger Federer. He expressed how he learned so much, surrounded by legends.

“We went to the Bean, yeah, we had an amazing Media Day there,” Kyrgios continued. “Honestly, I picked and studied Pippen’s brain for two hours, and I asked him some more questions. I just wanted to learn what he was about, his experiences, and obviously, having successful athletes like that around me, you know, I learned so much.”

Laver Cup lineup for 2021

For the Laver Cup 2021, Team Europe comprises Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev, Matteo Berrettini, Casper Ruud, and Feliciano Lopez (Alternate). Tennis legend Bjorn Borg is their captain.

Team World includes Denis Shapovalov, Diego Schwartzman, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Reilly Opelka, John Isner, Nick Kyrgios, and Jack Sock (Alternate) with captain John McEnroe.
