Breaking records and climbing up to the top ranking, Novak Djokovic has plans to do more. However, to the community’s utter surprise, he recently made a huge professional decision by splitting up with his long-term coach, Goran Ivanisevic. But now that he has stepped on the court without the coach who helped him create history in the past, the 24-time Grand Slam champion emphasized his current equation with Ivanisevic. The world’s number-one-ranked tennis player also opened up about the 52-year-old former tennis player’s absence and how times have changed.

Novak Djokovic talks about sharing an ‘incredible relationship’ with Goran Ivanisevic

Recently, after winning the second round of the Monte Carlos Masters, in an interview with Tennis Channel, the 36-year-old Serbian tennis player reiterated that despite the professional split, there’s no personal animosity between the two. He stated, “It was an incredible relationship professionally; it is still is private of course with Goran. I love him as close [as a] family member. He’s someone that I always looked up to and someone that I will forever remain the friend of me and my family.”

Along with that, he also dwelled on the seperation and, at the same time, detailed how, even though the time has changed, the records they have created and the equations they have carried for the past 6 years, both on the personal and professional front, will always be close to his heart.

Further, he added, “So but it was you know that kind of a mutual decision to to go separate ways. But the kind of success and records that that we broke and what kind of achievements that we made is something that remains forever in the history of the sport. I’m very proud to be uh to be his player and for him to be my coach for you know six years.”

On the other hand, the world’s number one ranked tennis player also talked about his equation with Nenad Zimonjic, one of the potential candidates to take up Ivanisevic’s place, as he has been practicing with Djokovic for a few weeks now.

Djokovic emphasizes on ‘something fresh’ to the table 

In the same conversation, the 24-time Grand Slam champion opened up about how he is quite excited to work with a new coach and try on different things that come with him. He stated, “I’m excited to embark on a on a new journey. I think Zemo brings something new something fresh to me you know his kind of angle and perspective and observation of my game is is is really interesting to witness.” 

Along with that, he also explained how he has known the 47-year-old Serbian tennis coach for years now as someone who has always mentored and helped him out as a friend. But it will be interesting to see what the upcoming Grand Slam tournament performance would look like for the Serb, with someone new by his side.
